Description:
Afton is the most lovable dog - she hits life head-on, with curiosity, joy, and a happy-go-lucky demeanor. Her tail is always wagging with delight! Not to mention, she is so soft and unique looking - she reminds us of a cuddly bear cub.
Afton is a great “plug and play” dog who will fit in with almost any home environment. She’s done well entering an established pack of three other dogs; she was docile, playful and submissive and didn’t need to be dominant. She currently lives with two kids ages 5 & 8 and LOVES them. She wants to be where they are/lay with them all the time. She even passed exposure to a cat and guinea pig(s) with flying colors. Afton is generally very social and wants her people (and/or animal buddies) around. She needs an extra few minutes with new men, but very quickly learns to love them.
She loves to walk and hasn’t displayed any reactivity, but does pull (a front-clip harness or gentle leader would be a good addition). She seems fully house-trained. She is not a barker unless our resident dog starts and she follows; she is very quiet on her own while inside. She loves the car and eagerly hops into the front seat. She seems to know “sit” and “stay”.
Afton is a gem of a dog - she is the perfect size, perfect age, and is super friendly, gentle, fun and sweet - she would make a wonderful companion for someone who loves adventures, breweries and dog parks or for a family looking to add even more love. She’s even cuter in-person than in her photos!
Of note: Afton gets kinda lonely when she's home alone and will make her opinions known by using her voice. Shared walls might not be the best situation for her...or the neighbors! If you have previously applied with us please email adoptionatmars@gmail.com to reactivate your application with new interest. All fees are subject to MN sales tax and a processing fee at the time of adoption. We accept Credit cards, Debit cards as well as cash. At this time we do not accept checks. Our Adoption fees for all animals cover required vetting: which includes, Rabies, Distemper Vaccine Series, Bordetella, Deworming, Heartworm Test as age appropriate, Spay or Neuter and Microchip and registration. *The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person! If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called "cute" as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification! Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.
*Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care. Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks. Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
