Description:
Hazel is as cute as a button!  Her pictures don't even do her justice!  This sweet girl has the most beautiful dark eyes and petite face.  Her fur has brindle copper tones that shine. Hazel is smaller in person than she looks in pictures. This adorable little girl is only about 1 years old and is very slim, active, and healthy.

Hazel was brought to the shelter as she was able to climb the chain link fence and escape her yard. Since she is also quite little, she can squeeze under fence doors that are ~6 inches off the ground.  She just doesn't like to be left alone while outside! She wants to be by her people! Hazel is super happy to get out and go for walks and explore. She is very food motivated and will sit for treats. Hazel is good with other dogs and unreactive to cats. Hazel should be a simple fit into most homes looking for an energetic smaller dog.

Hazel does not like to go into plastic kennels but she seems more willing to enter wire cages.  Once she is inside her kennel, she is fine.  Treats help to get her into her kennel since she is so food motivated. Hazel is housetrained.  She understands that she should go the bathroom when she is outside and has the chance. She does not love to be outside by herself (probably because she is still a bit uncomfortable in her new environment and it's sooo cold) so it is best to go out with her to ensure she goes he bathroom. She is very new in her foster household, so she hasn't yet figured out how to ask to go outside.

Hazel is good with kids!  She is a bit shy when she first meets anyone (kid, adult, or dog), but she warms up quickly.  She loooooves to be around her humans.   Her tails wags like crazy whenever anyone is around.  She can be a bit in-your-face about getting attention, but that is common for young pups and if you ignore her, she settles down.  Hazel likes to chew on toys and pounce around the room.  She is such a happy girl!  She will be playing hard and then just pass out sleeping!  So precious!

It seems like Hazel is used to sleeping in bed with her human.  She also likes couches and dog beds....and sometimes even the arms of couches.  What a goofball!  She rarely barks and would be fine to have in housing with closer proximity to other houses.

*The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called "cute" as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification!

Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.

*Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
