Meet Wendy!

Wendy was found as a stray and left unclaimed at a shelter.  This little girl will steal your heart! If you’re looking for a pup to curl up with, run errands, go on new adventures, or just chill and relax …she’s your girl!

Wendy gets along great with her foster brother (who is a boxer-mix and twice her size) and loves to play and investigate the back yard with him!  She is adjusting to her new environment well and mimics the activity/mood of the situation. If you have a resident pup that is active and playful, with Wendy, you will have two active/playful pups! Since she seems to mirror behavior, she would probably do best with a household that has a neutral/non-alpha resident dog.  She is very social, so would enjoy the companionship of a fur-sibling, but also may be fine as the only resident pup if she is not left alone for long durations (since she has a foster brother, it’s unclear if she would show any separation anxiety during the day when completely alone). She has not been cat tested yet.

Wendy is a quick learner – she is mastering the eye contact/permission queue, as well as a few old standards of “shake” and “lay down”! She loves walks but has shown reactive behavior when she spots a  squirrel … so would recommend continued coaching and patience with her leash training. She has not shown any signs of food aggression and allows items to be taken away - also working on “release” command J. Wendy does not seem to bark much and tends to ignore barking dogs on walks (she is more interested in sniffing).

She is currently being kenneled during the day (up to 8-9 hours) with no accidents. Although she does not prefer the kennel, she goes in immediately with a  treat – and sometimes with no treat incentive. When Wendy first arrived, it took some time for her to settle down when kenneled (crying and whining)…and now there is no crying/whining when I leave in the morning or return in the evening (cannot confirm if she has set-backs during the day or not)…but a huge improvement from her initial feelings towards kenneling. She even wanders in the kennel on her own sometimes with her toy.

Overall, Wendy is a little gem with a wonderful sweet personality and disposition.  She is smart, and quick to adapt to the rules of the house, and would be a wonderful companion in her fur-ever home!

*The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called "cute" as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification!

Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.

*Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
