Description:

I'm Rockie!

When most people meet me, they ask "what is a black mouth cur?"  My breed is not well-known in Minnesota, but we are found more often in the Southern States.  Infact, MARS is the only MN rescue that currently has black mouth curs in rescue right now- me and a girl named Franny!

I had a rough start to life- my siblings, mom and I were found in a frozen drainage ditch, literally starving to death.  No one knows how we got there, but MARS came to the rescue!  Everyone survived and now I am ready to go to my forever home!

I have gone through a level one 6-week obedience course with my foster mom, and know how to sit, stay, come, lay down, and shake.  I am also crate trained and housebroken, so if you work a 9-5 to pay the bills, I should be just fine!  I live with kids and do great with them (have been around kids as young as 2-3 and did wonderful!), and at the dog park I have shown to do well with other dogs!  I do take a little while to warm up with them, but with proper introductions we will be playing within minutes!  For my age, I have low energy levels, so one or two walks or trips to the park per week should keep me content.  I am a little shy around new people- it's just part of my personality, but as long as people give me a couple minutes to warm up to them I'll soon be begging to be pet!

Last but certainly not least, I do this really cool thing.  When my foster parents tell me to "say hello" I start baying, and after a few tries I literally sound like I am saying "HELLO!"  Don't I belong on Jay Leno for that?!?

I would love to say "HELLO" to you and your family, so if I sound like a good fit, please go ahead and fill out an application for me, so I can meet you!

UPDATE FROM ROCKIE'S FOSTER:
Rockie was a little hesitant about meeting our dogs but that lasted less than a day and now they are great pals. It was just a matter of him finding his place in the pack. He likes to spend time playing or napping with the other dogs. He is sleeping in his kennel over night at this point without complaint. He is a cute little guy who wants to be by his people.

Rockie loves to go on walks. We are still having some issues when walking and seeing other dogs but we are working on that behavior. He is food motivated so training should be fairly simple. He seems to be recognizing his name, is learning to sit and usually comes when called.

We have a teenager and Rockie trots to the door whenever he hears someone come into the house but has not shown aggression towards any of our visitors. He has gone on a couple of car rides and was very relaxed. He does very well with our two cats and basically ignores them.

*The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called "cute" as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification!

Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.

*Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
