Description:
Meet Halsey She's a sweet, goofy girl. She LOVES attention, and is everybody's best friend. She's maybe overly affectionate, wanting to climb people. She can get pets for hours in the evening. She's pretty low-key, but does know how to play.
She's usually good with other dogs, especially when introduced correctly. We've come across a few on walks that she wasn't fond of, but that's when they've wanted to come right up in her face. That has also become much better as she's gotten comfortable.
Her biggest issue would be separation anxiety. I'll admit it's been tough to break her of that, since I'm working from home and we're all encouraged to avoid being out too much. She is definitely doing better. She used to always mess her kennel when I left, and now that's rare. I've tried leaving her out when I leave, but she can get into mischief (mostly tipping over the garbage, little things like that).
She quickly learned to go outside once she got here. Now she comes and gets me when she needs to go out.
I think she'd do best in a home with a playmate dog / companion. When I let her out on her own, she wants to come right back in. If she's out with my dog, she'll follow along for a while. She cuddles with my elderly dog. Having a furry buddy seems to make her feel more secure.
Probably also best would be a household where somebody is usually around. I don't know how she'd do in a home alone for a full work day. In the morning, she'd probably sleep, but she gets more active in the afternoon and could get anxious or curious.
She loves walks and is good at walking, going to the end of the lead but not really pulling (unless there's a rabbit or cat, or sometimes a squirrel. Pesky rabbits!).
Halsey did test positive for heartworm and has been treated and is now heartworm free. We are a foster based rescue located in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. We do require adoptions to physically take place at our adoption center and do not provide transport of any of our animals. If you are not local to us we encourage you to look at rescues and shelters in your area as many animals are in need across the United States. If you have previously applied with us please email adoptionatmars@gmail.com to reactivate your application with new interest. *The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person! If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called "cute" as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification! Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.
*Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care. Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks. Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
