Hi! My name is Jake, but my foster parents call me Jax, short for Jackson. It’s hard to believe I am back up for adoption at my age, but it was a rough year after I became homeless due to no fault of my own and ended up in a shelter. Fortunately, MARS transferred me to Minnesota and found me a foster home. Since returning to home life, I have found a new spring in my step. Not only do I go up and down the stairs multiple times a day following my foster parents around, I also jump up on the couch to snuggle with my foster mom. Once, I even shocked my parents by jumping up into the back of their SUV—I wanted to make sure they didn’t forget me at home! Having my 2 foster brothers has really helped me adjust back to home life and remind me what it’s like to be a dog. I get along with them well. We are all pretty chill and don’t really play, but we love to just hang out together. I also like to meet other dogs while we are out on walks, but puppy energy does get annoying after a while. I prefer dogs that are more chill like me and just want to sniff. While I may not have a lot of years left, I have a lot of love to fill whatever time I do have. In addition to being a snuggle monster, I love to give kisses. One of my favorite activities is just laying outside and soaking up the rays of sunshine, whether it’s on the deck or in the grass. I also like to bark at the neighbors when they are out, but my foster mom is helping me to work on my manners. However, I am very good about just giving a single bark at the door when I want to be let in or out. When I hang out inside, I especially love laying on soft areas, like the new plush carpet in the basement. Sometimes I just flop down and roll around on it. My foster parents get a kick out this and think I am a big goof ball. I do get scared during thunderstorms, but I have medication that helps me with this now in addition to hanging out in the basement with the TV and fan on to block the loud thunderclaps. I walk well on a leash but haven’t felt like going on the longer walks with my brothers lately and instead I prefer going on shorter walks by myself—sometimes they go a little fast for me. As you can see, I don’t need a lot from a forever home—just a nice place to sleep, a couple of meals a day, but especially someone to love me that I can love back.If you have previously applied with us please email adoptionatmars@gmail.com to reactivate your application with new interest. All fees are subject to MN sales tax and a processing fee at the time of adoption. We accept Credit cards, Debit cards as well as cash. At this time we do not accept checks. Our Adoption fees for all animals cover required vetting: which includes, Rabies, Distemper Vaccine Series, Bordetella, Deworming, Heartworm Test as age appropriate, Spay or Neuter and Microchip and registration. *The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person! If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called "cute" as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification! Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.
*Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care. Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks. Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
