Description:

Kuokoa is Hawiian for Freedom! Rescued from a MN backyard breeder. She is timid with people; she does not see us as companions or caregivers...yet.

Kuokoa has been adapting to home life at her own pace. She is most comfortable around her foster brother Cooper, and she is picking up how to "dog" from him. She loves to burn off energy playing in the backyard with him and then is always up for a good snuggle afterwards. We do have 2 cats as well as a Ferrett in the home, and she does well with all of them. She likes to follow her kids around (2 boys ages 3 and 5) and will sometimes even jump into bed with them, however she is still unsure how to react to the love from a human. Bowie does have some separation anxiety when it comes to being left alone. She does well in her kennel if she can see you, but she does not take it very well when you leave the house. I do think she would do better with a family that works from home. She has been coming with me to the office everyday so that would be a great option for her as well. She does take a while to warm up to new humans but she is slowly coming out of her shell. She has not had any accidents and was perfect from the start when it comes to going potty outside. She is a sweet girl who needs a family that has patience to let her open up to be the fun loving pup she is.

As of right now, it is essential she be adopted locally within the Twin Cities so they, and their homes, can receive the support needed (ie, medical and possibly behavioral). It is also necessary that the homes they’re placed into another confident dog as a guide for the Lab will have the ability to see that it’s okay to trust humans. It will also help to establish the home’s care routines (such as, where to go potty, when to go potty, when breakfast/dinner is). Lastly, due never having experienced wearing a collar or walking on leash we are initially requiring they go to homes with securely fenced yards where they can safely practice this new skill.

*The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called "cute" as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification!

Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.

*Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
