Description:

"I don't know how a handsome gentleman like me ended up at the pound, but there I was in a cramped and dirty cell with no way to get outside and all alone. Then MARS saw me and said "We can't let that wonderful guy die!"- So now I'm saved and looking for a place to spend the rest of my life. And don't let my age fool you.

If you take me outside to play, I can run and play like a puppy! My younger foster sister can hardly keep up with me sometimes when we play. I'm a great inside dog too. I've got good manners and mostly just like to lie on the floor next to you or on the couch if you let me!

My Foster parents also love how I talk when they pet me. They call it my "Chewbacca" voice!

I'm still working on learning commands, but I'm a fast learner and I am eager to please. Give me a chance, and I'll be your cuddly teddy bear forever!"

Foster Update!

Kaplan is just an awesome dog! He's got most of his commands down, and is a very well-behaved dog overall. His leash-walking is improving...he doesn't pull, but he does weave back and forth and occasionally will try to jump into a shrub/bush to investigate something (we're pretty sure he was a hunting dog in his previous life), but he's easily redirected.

Riding in the car continues to be stressful, but he's improved greatly with that as well. He used to whine and drool throughout the entire ride, and now he only whines when startled, and occasionally when we stop moving for too long.

He's an awesome friend to our dog, Kaira, and they love to play when their outside. He even tires her out before he's tired out sometimes, which is impressive considering she's not quite 3 yet, and he's at least 6!

He's also great at fetch, and especially loves frisbees. When he's inside, his two favorite things to do are sleep on the "Dog Sofa" (yes, they have their own sofa) and curl up under someone's feet.

He's a complete lover, and absolutely adores hugs and back rubs, and especially ear rubs! We know when he's especially enjoying it, because he grunts and moans quite loudly, and it's adorable! He's really got a voice, and he knows how to use it.

As I said, he's just a wonderful dog.

If you are interested in bringing this wonderful boy home please click the ADOPT button below to fill out a application.  You will be contacted by his placement coordinator and begin the process of bringing home your new pooch!

*The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called "cute" as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification!

Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.

*Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
