Description:
Hi I'm Luka!!! You won't BELIEVE my story! One day my sister Loki and I were playing in our yard. Dad asked us if we wanted to go for a ride so we climbed in the truck. We thought it was weird when he brought our food but who were we to ask questions...we were going for a RIDE! Dad drove for what seemed like forever when he finally stopped. He grabbed our leashes, the big bag of food and proceeded to walk us into a strangers fenced yard. He left the food by the gate, kissed us good bye, and drove away. Luka and I waited hours for him to come back. The next morning this kind woman walked out on her patio to drink her coffee and POOF she was the proud owner of two new Belgian Shepherds! Well, you can imagine it wasn't what she was expecting so off the pound we go. Fortunately a volunteer at the pound made a quick phone call to MARS and now we are in the fabulous state of MN waiting for our forever home! I would really like a home with another dog. I'm scared to be alone and another dog helps me feel confident and secure. I have some seperation issues so my new home will need to be patient and willing to work with me until I believe I won't be abandoned ever again. Here is an update from Luka's foster parents: Luka is a sweet, submissive female that loves other dogs and being around Please click on the Adopt button below to meet this sweet girl. UPDATE FROM LUKA'S ADOPTIVE HOME, JULY 19TH, 2011:
* We gave up on the crate soon after getting the one from the shelter. We gambled a few times but other than a destroyed screen the first time she was left loose she has been great. We have now been able to leave her loose in the house for as much as 8 hours. * Great runner and a great walking dog. * She loves fetch now. While she will fetch almost anything her favorite are the supposedly indestructible jolly balls...she is a chewer and just shreds them. * I was worried when we first got her when she ran away three times but now she stays in the yard even when loose in the front yard. * Our cats are ostracized to the basement but I don't mind that all that much (Luka has too much interest in them for the cats to be comfortable) but it is getting better, the cats are slowly coming back up. * She occasionally has an accident in the house since she won't let you know she needs to go out but we are working with her. It usually happens early in the morning. * She has nipped at the kids a couple times but it is in play, she sometimes has a tough time knowing the difference. Our last dog did to with Tommy as a toddler. I think she will eventually figure it out. * She gets along great with other dogs and is very social. * Very smart and a quick learner. * She has an interesting personality loves to play but also loves to just lay down and relax...kinda a strange combination for young dog. She can instantly shift between the two, I have never seen that before. * Super affectionate. * She has actually fattened up a bit (Can't see her ribs anymore). * She is a great dog and a great addition to our family, thanks for letting us add her to our family. * I am a fan of Belgian Melinios now. Thanks for all you guys do with the rescue, Corby, Angie, Tommy, and Samantha Koehler
*The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person! If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called "cute" as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification! Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.
*Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care. Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks. Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
