Description:
Hi, I'm Larson. My emergency foster mom calls me a cuddle bug. My sister Lacie is the snuggle bug! We were found living in a brush pile on an Indian reservation. We were cold and starving when an angel found us and brought us to MARS. Please click on the Adopt button to meet Larson!UPDATE FROM LARSON'S ADOPTIVE HOME, JULY 19TH, 2011: Larson's doing pretty well. He's about 30 lbs now. He still has that
puppy face and gets everyone's attention when we're at the dog park. I
think we told you that we had him DNA tested and there's not a drop of
Newfie in him - he's a complete mutt all the way back to
great-grandparents. It looks like he won't be getting too much bigger than
he is now. The kids are thrilled!
We tried a different trainer this time around - Family Dog (formerly
Cornerstone) because she'll come to the house. That was definitely a good
move - we liked our other trainer too, but not having to go to a class with
the kids in tow has been great. Larson's excellent at "sit" now, and his
"come" is getting better by the day. He's incredibly bright and really
easy to train. Diane (the trainer) warned that he's a very high energy
dog, so we have to keep him really busy nearly all day or he'll start
barking and/or chewing on stuff and/or digging - and we've seen all three
already.
Thank goodness he likes to fetch - we start the morning throwing his
favorite toy ("squeaky monkey") as much as we can before I have to feed the
kids. When the weather's not insanely hot we've been taking him to one of
the local dog parks, and he can run flat-out for over an hour before he even
*thinks* about lying down. When the weather *is* insanely hot, it makes for
a pretty rough day. Today we started teaching him to jump through a hoop
(he loves to jump - both where he should and where he shouldn't) and run
through a tunnel. Tonight we'll be going to the Petco puppy playtime -
it's a free service every Monday night. And I heard a rumor that there's
an indoor dog park somewhere around here - I'll have to look into that. *The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person! If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called "cute" as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification! Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.
*Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care. Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks. Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
