Description:

Laurence, or Blue as his rescuer calls him, is a wonderful boy with lots of love to give.

This boy can't wait to have a family to call his own and someone to love and cherish him.

He LOVES to play fetch and will do it until your arm falls off from throwing it for him!!  He really loves to roughhouse with you too, but he can get too excited sometimes, and he needs to slow down so he doesnt knock you right over!! Blue is good with other dogs and just wants to play, play, play. This can be annoying for lower energy or older dogs, but younger, more energetic dogs who want a playmate would do great with him!  He for sure likes to chase chickens and should not live at a home with chickens, he cant seem to help himself, they flutter so much!

He would prefer a home with kids over 10 yrs old and he would be a great walking or running partner.  He would also love obedience school!

UPDATE: Laurence has learned many new things from his new foster mom. She says he now knows how to sit, down, stay and comes when he is called! He has also learned not to mouth her hands or jump on her anymore. His foster mom also says she can take his bones away when needed and he doesnt mind her being near his food when he eats. His housebreaking is all done too! He is such a smart boy!! He sleeps in his crate at night and is still being crated while she is gone for work just in case, but has learned his house manners pretty well so he is on his way to being able to be loose when he is alone. He loves his chew toys and has not chewed on anything that isnt his either. He has also learned to relax in the house during quiet times too now. Sounds like Laurence is ready to be adopted into his forever home now thanks to all the help from his loving foster mom!

Just sending an update on Blue.
He is doing great. I was sick with the flu last week and he was so calm and sweet.
He was out of his crate for 3 entire days while I was home sick- not one issue!
The guy I'm dating has a little girl (who is just turning 3) and she the boss of Blue. He does really well with her, listens to her and all. (I still think he might chase after her, if given the chance playing outside- being rambunctious/ not aggressive- but I have no fears with him being around her.)  We're still working on setting him free at night but every few nights he's a little to busy for me (keeps me up) so he ends up back in the crate. He doesn't get into trouble, just playing all night with bones and balls, kind of noisy. He is still doing well listening, improving everyday. He likes to pay in front of the patio door and soak up the sun.

Update from Laurence/Blue's new family:

Well our new addition is doing fantastic!  First, he has learned his new name, Cooper really well.  Yes, "Blue" for a white shepherd didn't seem to fit him.  He is a very fast learner and enjoys working on new things.  He has mastered: sit; lay down; and sit back up; he also knows to "go to his spot" when we are having dinner and doesn't move until we release him!.  Coop has also mastered shaking and we just learned to "play dead".  He does have his moments and gets an attitude.  I found out he works best in short 10 minute training sessions. Anything longer and he gets bored and naughty.  He doesn't jump on arriving guests and is very gentle with babies (my son's) and small children.  He is a great Frisbee catcher!   It is still an on going process with loose leash walking.  He does fairly well but has a tendency to stray ahead slightly.  This is more training me better than him I think.  We can't wait for the spring weather to get here so we can start working him with outside boundaries. We are also going to have a large covered dog run for him with a doggie door so when we are gone he will be able to enjoy the outdoors if he chooses.  He has really fit in and continues to make great strides.  Until he is totally comfortable with us we are waiting to introduce him to other dogs, big and small.  Sue is going to take him to obedience training if for nothing more than to help with socialization and training her with him.

Tracy, we both want to thank you for the great job you did recommending Coop for us.  Great job and thanks!  Keep in touch.  Any thoughts or suggestions are welcomed from you.

*The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called "cute" as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification!

Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.

*Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
