Meet Maggie

So sad, Maggie was part of an abuse case.  Somehow a terrible person caused great harm to this little baby out of anger.  She ended up with multiple injuries but has been recovering after treatment and if 100% on the mend since a wonderful angle rescued her and brought her to safety.

Update from her foster:

She settled right in last night and has been so gentle with the dogs. She shares toys and treats and lets Jo (my chihuahua/rat terrier) run the show. He got snarky with her once  and she just ignored him and walked away. She respects the senior dog and gets excited when she gets to say hi, but doesn't jump on her or get in her face like most puppies would.

Maggie loves to toss toys around and delights in each new toy she finds. She loves all kinds of balls and brings them back if you roll them across the floor. She is very quiet, very gentle. I did hear one little hound howl of delight slip out during play in the yard with Jo.

Maggie loved going for a walk today and did well on the leash. She is housetrained on a schedule and will go to the door and stand quietly, waiting to be noticed. She likes chew toys and rawhides and is not possessive with them around the dogs.

Maggie will lie quietly in her cushy dog bed once she has had enough activity and take a nap. She slept quietly for 8 hours in her crate in the bedroom last night.

Maggie is starting to use her previously broken leg. There is alot of muscle wasting. She mostly bunny hops when she uses the leg. I think improvement will be fast. She can do low steps if there are only 2 to 4, but needs to be carried up and down longer flights of steps for right now. Seems like her pain is fairly minimal.

Maggie definitely needs people with soft touches and voices. Once in awhile she shrinks a little when I go to pet her or pick her up. Most people would probably not recognise that she is doing it. It is subtle. With time to put her trauma behind her and knowing she can trust her person, I think that will fade away. She is nothing but sweet, pure, gentle love. An amazing one of a kind girl.

*The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called "cute" as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification!

Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.

*Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
