Walker is a 1 and a half year old doberman pinscher who is likely a partial albino. He is cropped and docked. He's also house trained and crate trained, neutered, microchipped and UTD on all shots.  He arrived at the shelter very underweight and he is gaining weight nicely. Walker LOVES people and is good with other dogs although he's been known to play rough with some small dogs. He's one of the sweetest dobermans you could ever meet.  Although Walker is good with kids, unpredictable preschoolers make him nervous.  For this reason he would do best in a home with respectful school aged children.  He loves all toys (especially squeaky balls) and loves to play.  Being albino, he is sensitive to sunlight - meaning he cannot tolerate normal amounts of sunlight and can very easily become sunburned. He may need to wear sunscreen or just avoid sun exposure altogether. Walker can see and hear just fine, no problems at all with any of his senses.  (There is a misconception out there that all white dogs have vision and/or hearing problems.  This is simply not true).  Walker is a typical young doberman with lots of energy.  Don't let his size fool you - this boy is all puppy.  We are working on his leash walking as he is very strong and tends to pull.  I believe a Gentle Leader or Easy Walk Harness should help.  He rides great in the car and he's very well behaved (aside from some counter surfing & minor puppy chewing).   He just arrived at his foster home and we are still getting to know him.  I gave Walker a much needed bath and cleaned his ears.  I'm happy to report he was very cooperative.  I'll be trimming his nails tomorrow and I hope that goes just as smooth.  He seems to have adjusted very quickly to all the new people and new dogs here.  Watch for updates as we learn more about Walker.

***UPDATE***   Walker walks great with an Easy Walk Harness - sized M/L.  The difference is truly night and day!  A Gentle Leader works great too, now that he's used to it.  Everywhere we go people stop us to ask questions about the striking "white dog".  Walker draws attention and admiration from nearly everyone that crosses his path.
Walker lets me clip his nails, no problem.  (His white nails are so much easier to trim than dark).  However he does not like the nail dremel.
We've noticed Walker does best on a grain free diet.  When he was eating regular Canidae his stools were always very loose but when he was switched to Canidae Grain Free they firmed up nicely.  Plus his skin and coat look fantastic.  We also give all our dogs a fish oil capsule with every meal.
Walker thinks he's a lap dog.  He loves to back up to us when we're sitting and plop down in our lap.  Of course only his back end will fit, his front end is still standing!
One of his favorite spots to nap is ON TOP of his crate.  I have one dog bed in the crate and one on the crate.  He prefers on the crate every time.  Just call him "Mr. Personality".
Today I looked outside and found Walker standing on top of our patio table.  Walker does things most dogs wouldn't even think of, like helping himself to raspberries from our raspberry bush.  He does listen quite well and got down immediately after I told him to.  This boy is truly unique!

*The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called "cute" as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification!

Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.

*Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
