Help! Walter needs a vacation foster from 8/24-8/30.
Meet Walter!

Good with cats, kids, other dogs, and everybody in general!

Do you have a place in you family for this sweet ole' southern gentleman?

Walter is quite possibly the biggest bundle of love than can be contained in a 35 pound body!  Walter came to MARS in sad shape: obese, dirty, and not quite sure what to do in a house.  With lots of long walks (which he loves) and a limited diet, he is now sporting a healthier physique and is happy to be able to run his adorable, floppy run or jump on the couch or bed if he is allowed.
Although he has the calmness of a senior, he has a lot of puppy-like qualities too!  He does his "happy bed dance" because he is so excited to be on one.  His manners have greatly improved and he has learned "sit", "out" and is working on "lay down" and "leave it."   He is incredibly sweet, gentle, and affectionate.

He is copacetic with everybody and really wants to snuggle with the cat, who isn't quite as enthusiastic about the idea, but may be happier if he doesn't have to share the spotlight with another dog (he just looks sad when he gets left out).

Walter is super quiet, which is unusual for a beagle, and has only made noise when he got picked on by another dog.  Because he is so quiet, Walter and his foster family are learning to understand his cues that he wants to go outside, and he is working on learning how to ring a bell. Walter has also greatly improved in his habit of helping himself to inedibles within his reach, but in the beginning may need a controlled environment with lower areas free of small chewable objects!

Walter would be a perfect dog for someone who wants a happy-go-lucky, lovebug for good company. Please consider bringing this snuggly boy into your home!

*The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called "cute" as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification!

Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.

*Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
