Description:
THANK YOU DANE P. FOR SPONSORING ME AND GIVING ME A NAME! Notes from sending shelter: So far some of them have tested positive for Demodectic mange (non-contagious mange) have started treatment for it and had several baths with special shampoo -- also they are being treated for eye infections.
The sores on their legs and paws are from laying and walking in all the feces and urine that was never cleaned up. The dogs that were locked in crates had it running out of the fronts of them from the doors-- the floors literally had 3 to 4" of feces and urine on it and the stench was unbearable -- the law enforcement had to use gas masks with oxygen attached to go in and retrieve the dogs out to us to crate up for transport. There were tornup couches and chairs the dogs could jump up on to get out of the stuff on the floor but they to were covered in feces and wet urine from where the dogs would get up there and lay to get out of it. None of these 54 dogs have ever been outside and never been on a leash-- they were locked in the downstairs basement of a home that was a finished basement and only had little to no human contact except for the single lady that lived there with them.
They has been easy for us to handle a little skittish and scared at first with all the change they have been through the past week, but over all nice little dogs and most are under 20#. The one and only thing that she did was feed these dogs and keep water buckets down because none of them are severely underweight. UPDATE ON JACKSON JUNIOR: Jackson is so, so, so very sweet! He is timid, which is understandable given his original circumstances - but he is curious and is promising to come out of his shell in no time with just a little patience. Although timid, he does not seem fearful/skittish. Everything's just new to him - from the grass outside to the stairs inside to snuggles with humans. In the short time he's been at his foster house, he has learned to LOVE being outside, has conquered the stairs like a champ, and will put his little face and paws up on his foster mom's lap with a wagging tail asking for a little face-scratch. He hasn't yet fully snuggled but it is likely to happen very soon He often uses other dogs in the foster home as a pillow, so he does love the comfort. He gets along very well with the two dogs in the foster home (30lb beagle mixes) - doesn't really play yet, but loves having them around and follows their lead to go outside, have meals, etc. He probably would not require another dog in the house, but he'd appreciate a canine buddy if there is one. He follows his foster mom around everywhere, so his bond to his furever human will be a tight one. He just LOVES being LOVED.
He's a petite little guy, perfect size. At just 18lbs he's got a little filling out to do, but otherwise won't get much bigger, and his tiny little face holds the most loving eyes... Don't let the gray coloring on his muzzle fool you, he's just a babe at 1 or 2 years old.
Since he's curious, he'd love a fenced in yard to make sure he's safe from wandering.
He LOVES curling up in his bed, on the couch, or in his kennel filled with soft blankies.
He's doing VERY well with potty training, but will still need more work on this. He goes potty outside right away when he's let out, and has been kenneled when his foster mom is out and during the night to sleep - no accidents there. He's a smart boy and I'm sure he'd love to learn the ropes so he can be outside of his kennel during the day to lounge on the couch like a doggie of leisure. (see pics - he's good at the "leisure thing" - and oh so cute when he kicks back)
This guy is ready to feel the love of a furever home!!!!
*The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person! If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called "cute" as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification! Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.
*Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care. Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks. Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
