Cajun - Just the sweetest dog ever!! Sweet little Cajun lost his fight against the ravages of distemper. This sweet boy is a testament as to why vaccinations are so important. Canine distemper is a contagious, incurable, often fatal, multisystemic viral disease that affects the respiratory, gastrointestinal, and central nervous systems. Distemper is caused by the canine distemper virus (CDV). Our sweet boy did not have a fighting chance. We will miss you Cajun! This is CAJUN's story. He came to us all the way from GA. He was saved from the gas chamber on his last day. Cajun was so sad, so utterly petrified in his kennel at the shelter- that we were desperate to get him into a great home- so he could finally be given the love and attention he had gone without for so long! Cajun was a relaxed boy with a calm nature. This little sweetheart was a favorite at the shelter. He had warm brown eyes that seem to smile at you and a gentle tail wag for everybody. He pranced like a SHOW DOG when he walked- every step was so elegant! Cajun was between 6 and 7 months old. He had a very petite stature and was just as cute as can be. He spent his last days in a house full of love. He really was a wonderful boy. Sweet Cassie came to us with her puppies from a high kill shelter in the south. She and her pups loved the fenced back yard and loving foster home they were in. Cassie's life was shortened by darting out her door and unfortunately getting struck by a car. Her foster family and MARS are still grieving her sudden departure from this world, but know she is now free to romp and play and is happily waiting to see her pups and her foster mom someday over the bridge. "UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN..." -author unknown- I will never know what I did to deserve such an awful life full of abuse and neglect. My life had become so sad and lonely it was like living in an endless, dark tunnel. I remember looking up one day and seeing a bright light shining at the end of the tunnel. The light was so bright I thought that God must have sent an angel to finally end my suffering. God did send an angel, he sent you. The bright light I had seen was your smiling face. You promised me that my days of neglect and abuse were over. My battered body and broken spirit hardly dared to believe it was true. You opened your heart and your home and gave me more love and comfort and safety than I had ever known before. You gave me the softest bed my tired, aching bones had ever felt and more toys and attention than I had ever dreamed existed. I no longer cringed when a hand was raised near me, because your hands had only kindness and treats to offer me. I no longer feared the sound of feet approaching, because your feet had never kicked me, they had only taken me on wonderful adventures to exciting new places. Although "quantity" of time can be measured in days and weeks, there is no way to measure the "quality" of time. So there is no way to really measure just how deeply your love and devotion affected my life. But sometimes, even love & devotion and all the medical attention in the world can't heal a body that has been battered and broken for too long. So please do not be sad that I am gone. You performed a miracle in what little time we had together. You made my spirits soar and helped my soul find peace and contentment. From the day I met you I never suffered again, not even at the end. Just knowing that my memory would live in your heart forever gave me the strength to let go and find my way to Rainbow Bridge. So go forward from today with only happy memories of me in your heart and let them give you the strength to keep on lighting up sad, lost lives. Remember I will live forever in your heart and in the stars up above and my star will shine brighter with every life that's touched by your love.
"Until we meet again..." Moose crossed the Rainbow Bridge on Tuesday, September 23, 2008. He spent his last night cuddling his foster mom and trying to be as close to her as he possibly could. He got a sponge bath and seemed to smile and tried so hard to say thank you with his eyes. How so many could look at his tiny withering frame and face and not help this sick and suffering baby is unimaginable. How he wanted nothing more than to spend his final night in the arms of his person. He passed so peacefully and painlessly thanks to the care of a few wonderful people. Moose crossed the bridge alone and left us here but we know he will be waiting when we get there, leash in his mouth and smile in his eyes. Franni was walked over the rainbow bridge mid afternoon Oct 17. The gifts we believe awaited her there ... restored eyesight, returned youthfullness , and the boundless joy of freedom from the aches and pains and increasing blindness caused by previous neglect. It's all good on the other side of the bridge, but even so don't let me get my hands on the person/people who neglected Franni, the people who's job it was to love and care for her who didn't do it... because I am not a forgiving person. Keep an eye out for me Franni, it should be a while, but I'll be showing up at the bridge to claim you when it's my time. Love Foster Mom ~ Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge When an animal dies , he or she goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food and water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they miss someone very special to them; who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. The bright eyes are intent; the eager body quivers. Suddenly they begin to break away from the group, flying over the green grass, legs carrying them faster and faster. YOU have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your friend, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. THEN WE CROSS THE RAINBOW BRIDGE TOGETHER... Author Unknown Original believed to have been modified Meet Franni, Franni is a Senior Sweetheart who loves to nap and be petted! She’s looking for a home situation that’s calm, in which she can be mobile with a minimum of stairs/steps to navigate. Franni chooses soft rugs, and dog beds to situate her self on. She is pleasant to cats, and gets along with the resident dog in her temporary location. Sweet Franni has been mis-loved by being over fed she needs to lose a minimum of 5 pounds per the vets recommendation. Franni is looking not only for a home to love her but to love her with practicality by feeding her properly and providing her with exercise and interaction. A cat who has claws and doesn't enjoy dogs, or a non-senior savvy dog could be a determent to Franni’s happiness and well being. Franni’s eye care was neglected in her former living situation. She lives with a ‘dry eye’ condition common to small breeds which wasn't tended to with a simple saline eye drop regime thus she has some permanent, and some temporary scaring on her corneas. The Vet clinic has guaranteed that our current medication régime will continue to improve her left eye vision, and has already restored the quality of her vision in her right eye. The corneas are scarred from lack of lubrication. Franni will need daily applications of a gel lubricant called Cyclosporen to her eyes twice a day for life. At the vet she’s seen it is a cost of under $50.00 per month without a rescue discount. Her anti biotic course will be completed in one 30 day cycle. Click a letter to find an animal or view all.
